The International Day for Geodiversity is celebrated this year for the first time and will be celebrated on October 6 every year. Its main goal is to bring us into contact with the diversity of formations, landforms, rocks and fossils that make up the variety of sites of the earth's geological heritage so that we can get to know it and protect it.
This year it is celebrated simultaneously by Research Agencies, Universities, Museums and especially in the 177 UNESCO Global Geoparks on all continents, which organize a variety of events and educational activities to inform and raise awareness for the protection of our geological heritage and the promotion of Geoparks as places of learning.
