To improve teaching at Post-Graduate level on geoconservation, natural resources management, geo-hazard risk reduction, climate change adaptation and sustainable development
The UNESCO Chair on Geoparks and Sustainable Development of Insular and Coastal Areas aims to improve teaching on the sustainable heritage management and the sustainable development in insular and coastal Geoparks, geo-hazard risk reduction and climate change adaptation
UNESCO Global Geoparks protect and sustainably manage insular and coastal resources, demonstrate methods for scientific understanding of coastal processes, risks and impacts of hazards, climatic change adaptation and provide means for teaching geoscientific disciplines and broader environmental issues.
The promotion of sustainable management should not remain as an abstract goal but it has to become tangible and concrete. The 2030 Agenda for sustainable development seeks the Geoparks will be observatories of responsible consumption and production. Already significant work has been done by UNESCO Global Geoparks. A strategy and a series of tools indicators and competences need to be developed by UNESCO Global Geoparks for the proper implementation of sustainable management of natural resources focus in insular and coastal areas.
